This weekend saw us provide our very first Ironman Wales training day. We had over 50 clients and non clients attend, all with mixed abilities, from the curious starter and the first time Ironman to the experienced Ironmen who are completing Ironman Wales this year. The day started started at T1 with a safety briefing and the order of the day. A short walk down to the beach (the swim was later in the evening due to tide times) for some valuable information on the swim exit and the infamous run to T1. It was then on the bikes to complete one loop of the Ironman wales course. Every rider was to ride within their own pace and ability, with our expert coaches keeping a close eye on them. Strong headwinds to start made the ride a very difficult one. All riders completed the big loop and even concurred Wisemans and Heartbreak hills. Danni who rode on the tail made sure everyone got back to T1 safety.
After a short break, athletes completed one lap of the run course. This hilly run guided by Gary Howells took first timers to the top of New Hedges and back into Tenby, around the Harbour and through the town. Gary was providing some much needed advice on feed stations, toilets and the most important part, a sense of what the atmosphere will be like on raceday.
At 5pm the tide was in and it was the turn of Kev Pullen from Irontriswim who was guiding our athletes around one lap of the swim. Split into abilities and groups set off at minute intervals the swim was a success. Challenging currents made it a hard swim but everyone still enjoyed. We would like to thank everyone who gave up their time and helped support the day:
We hope you enjoyed the day and put your hard work and training to the test.
